PURPOSE:To obtain a battery causing small self-discharge and having good liquid-leakage resistance by improving the sealing performance of the periphery of the separator and eliminating any possibility of the breakage of the separator by applying a sealing agent between the separator and the inner surface of a gasket. CONSTITUTION:A sealing agent 5 is applied to an area 3c in which the inner wall of a gasket 4 touches a separator 3. For instance, a positive electrode 2 principally consisting of Ag2O and a positive ring 2a are pressed and molded in a positive can 1, and a separator 3 consisting of a microporous polyethylene and cellophane is placed on the positive electrode 2. Here, a sealing agent 5, principally consisting of butyl rubber is applied by stamping to the area 3c in which the separator 3 touches the inner surface of the gasket 4. On the other hand, after a negative mixture 7 principally consisting of amalgamated zinc and aqueous KOH solution is packed into a negative can 8 integrated with the gasket 4 by means of the sealing agent 5, the thus obtained body and a liquid-holding member 6 are attached to the positive part including the separator 3 before the end of the positive can 1 is curled by crimping to seal the battery. |
