In a process for producing sulphite pulp, such a strong digesting solution is drawn into the chippings in the initial stage of digestion that more than 35% of the total quantity of liquid can be removed, but such a quantity of solution is left in the digester that the solution can circulate through a calorifier for indirectly raising the temperature of final digestion. Preferably, the digesting solution/wood weight ratio is reduced to a value of 2.4:1. |
