PURPOSE:To enable to print in both directions and reduce the frequency of replacing a cassette, by a method wherein the first and second ink ribbons are contained in a cassette casing, and each of the ribbons is taken up in either direction when a carriage is moved forwards or backwards. CONSTITUTION:The first and second ribbons 19, 20 are contained respectively in two ribbon-containing chambers 21 of the ribbon cassette 17, and are taken up by driving shafts 23, 24 engaged to rotary shafts 11, 12, respectively. When the carriage 1 is moved in the direction of an arrow A, a loop form timing belt 4 is driven in the direction of an arrow A', a gear 13 is deviated together with a link 10, and a gear 14 is engaged to a gear 16 to rotate the rotary shaft 12. By this, the driving shaft 24 is rotated to take up the second ribbon 20 onto a spool 30. At this moment, a spool 28 skips. When the carriage 1 is moved in the direction of an arrow B, the gear 14 is engaged to a gear 15 to rotate the rotary shaft 11, so that the driving shaft 23 is rotated to take up the first ribbon 19 onto a spool 27. The cassette 17 is moved upward or downward by a solenoid, whereby each of the ribbons 19, 20 can be faced to a printing position. |
