PURPOSE:To accurately and readily discriminate whether a material to be recorded is correctly mounted or not in an ink jet printer by providing a front and rear discriminating symbol for discriminating the ink receiving layer forming surface of the material to be recorded. CONSTITUTION:A material 1 to be recorded is formed of a base 2 and an ink receiving layer 3, and two star marks 4 are, for example, provided by printing at two positions as identification symbols on the surface 2A of the base 2. The sheet 1 to be recorded in a cassette 11 is fed by a sheet feeding roller 12, and fed through a guide 13 to registration roller pair 14, but the identification symbol 4 on the material is detected by a sensor S provided near the guide 13. When the material 1 arrives at the holding unit of the roller pair 14, if the symbol 4 is not detected by the sensor S, it is judged as that the front and the back are reverse, and the sheet is stopped. If normal, the sheet is fed to a recording head 19, and color-printed. In this manner, fixing image of good quality can be obtained. |
