Acetic acid derivatives(I) for pharmaceutical purposes were prepared from compd.(III) by ring formation and hydrolysis. The intermediate product(Ia) was converted to (I) by the reaction with a comp. between (IV) and (V), where X = O or S; R1 = H or lower alkyl; R2 = hydroxy, alkoxy, alkenyloxy, cycloalkyloxy, aryloxy, substituted aryloxy, -NR3-R4, etc.; R3=H, hydroxy, lower alkyl, etc.; R4 = H, lower alkyl, etc.; Z = hydroxy or reactive ester residual gp. of alcohol; R6 = alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, substituted aryl, etc.; and -CH(R1)COR2 radical is coupled with carbon atom on the 2- or 3-position.
