PURPOSE:To measure the total use amount of a magnetic tape in a simple way by counting the number of output pulses of the AND between the read/write pulse of a head and the start/stop control pulse of a tape and then converting this count value into the length of the tape. CONSTITUTION:An AND circuit 4 uses the head read/write pulse (a) and the tape start/stop control pulse (b) delivered from a magnetic tape controller 1 as an input. The output pulses (c) of the circuit 4 are counted by a counter 5. While the pulses (b) are counted by a counter 6. Then the count value of the counter 5 is multiplied by IBG through an arithmetic device 7, and this result of operation is converted into the length of the tape. Thus it is possible to obtain simply the accurate total use amount of the magnetic tape which is not so far obtained in a local way on a magnetic tape device and regardless of the tape of the information to be written to the magnetic tape. |
