PURPOSE:To obtain radiating current with uniform intensity from respective chips by forming the cathode stated in headline with a plurality of needle- shaped chips, liquid metal which covers the surface of chips and emits electrons, a melting pot of liquid metal and a heat radiator. CONSTITUTION:A liquid metal electric field emission type multiple cathode is formed through the processes that a plurality of chips 1' consisting of W or the like are formed on a supporting member 2', they are then built into the melting pots 4, a liquid metal 3 consisting of Ga is supplied between them and a heater 5 is provided on the rear side of supporting member 2'. Ga 3 is melted into the liquid by the heater 5 and a positive high voltage is applied to the anode 9 having holes corresponding to the chips 1'. Thereby, each of the chips 1' is formed like a cone at the end point thereof by covering the surface of chip 1' with Ga 3 for emission of electrons. Accordingly, even if there is dispersion in the radius of curvature at end point of respective chip, the radiation current with uniform intensity can be obtained from the chips with the same leadout voltage. |
