PURPOSE:To detect a defective place with high resolution at the detection of one bit error by comparing cache reading data at the detection of an error with the contents of main storage reading data to detect an error bit position of the cache memory reading data at the generation of the error. CONSTITUTION:When an error detecting signal is sent to a signal line 51, the contents of a cache reading data holding circuit 6 and that of a main storage reading data holding circuit 7 are applied to a comparator 12 and the exclusive OR of both the contents is stored in an error state register 13. A maintenance diagnosing device 300 receiving a message indicating the generation of the one bit error in the eache memory 3 by the error detecting signal on the signal line 51 detects a memory element of the cache memory 3 generating the reading error and the bit position from an arithmethic processor 2 by using the contents of the reading address holding circuit at the generation of the error, the contents of the cache reading data holding circuit 6, the contents of the main storage reading data holding circuit 7, and the contents of an error state register 13 as error information. |
