The title compds. [I; R1, R2 = H, lower alkyl or alkanoyl, halogeno, cyano, carboxy, carbamoyl, sulfamoyl; Ph = substituted or unsubstituted phenylene; CmH2m,CnH2n = C2-3 lower alkylene; R3 = H, lower alkyl, lower alkanoyl, or hydroxy-lower alkyl; X = halogeno, lower alkoxy, lower alkyltio; Y = H, alkali metal; P = 0-2 , useful as tranquilizers, were prepd. from the reaction of II or its salt with III. Thus, H2NCH2CH(OMe)2 was cyclized to 2-imidazolethiol with KSCN. This was etherified with 2-O2NC6H4Br, reduced to the amine, cyclized with CSCl2, methylated with MeONa, and treated with 1- methylpiperazine to give 5-methylthio-imidazo [2,1,-b [1,3,5 benzothiadiazepine.
