The invention relates to a binding especially designed for thick texts such as telephone directories or documents of the same type such as encyclopedias, dictionaries and other works of reference. This binding is characterised in that its two hinged flaps 12 are extended by wings 5, 6 whose width "1" is approximately equal to the width of the covers 9 of the text, whereas their height is greater than the height of said covers 9, these wings 5, 6 having detachable fixing members 8 which act in combination with complementary members 81 fixed to the inside of flaps of the binding so that the covers 9 of the text are held between the flaps 1, 2 and wings 5, 6 by friction and pressure.
