IC CARD AND METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR HANDLING THE SAME

The IC card is provided with a semiconductor IC in which a large quantity of data is stored. The IC card is also provided with a coil which takes in an electromagnetic field used for generating a supply current for the semiconductor IC, and a coil and a Hall generator for reading data out from the semiconductor IC or writing data thereinto. The semiconductor IC, the coils and the Hall generator are incorporated within a plastic card. The apparatus for handling the card has a coil which generates an electromagnetic field as a source of supply current, a coil and a Hall generator for data transfer between the apparatus and the IC card, and a circuit which works with these coils and the Hall generator. The IC card and the card-handling apparatus transfer the supply current and data therebetween electromagnetically in a so-called contactless manner.
