Device for blasting the surfaces of workpieces with large surface areas, such as containers (1), sheet-metal plates and the like, outside closed blasting booths, having a mobile blasting unit (4), a centrifugal element of the blasting unit generating a cleaning jet, the ricocheting dirt and blasting particles being collected and separated within the blasting unit and the blasting particles being returned to the centrifugal element and the dirt particles being separately discharged. The device has a work frame (3) provided with a vertical reception platform (2) fitted with means for fastening the workpiece (1) and with means (16, 17, 18) for raising, lowering and pivoting (15, 19) the workpiece (1) about a horizontal axis (A), and a device (7, 8, 29) for moving the blasting unit (4) in a direction parallel to the pivoting axis (A) along the workpiece (1). <IMAGE>
