Method for influencing the temperature of the intake oil of a circulating lubrication system of a machine or the like, which machine has an oil sump and an oil pump with an intake pipe having a suction mouth for sucking up oil situated in the oil reservoir of the oil sump. For a more rapid increase of the temperature of the oil sucked up by the oil pump following each cold start of the machine, at least during a part of the machine warm up phase which leads to the machine being heated up to operating temperatures, the inflow into the oil pump of heated oil returning into the oil sump from the lubricated machine parts is favoured, this method being so designed that in addition at operating temperatures of the machine it has the effect of evening out the temperature of the oil sucked up by the oil pump.
