Method and device for determining the ignition point of an engine

A method for determining the ignition point of an engine is described, in which for determining the timing of the ignition of the fuel the ignition in the engine is detected by detection of flame light during combustion of the fuel in the combustion chamber of the engine and by photoelectric conversion of the thus recorded combustion flame light into an electrical signal; the essence of the process lies in the fact that the combustion flame light recorded by means of a flame sensor is converted by a photoelectric transformer device into a voltage signal, the voltage signal is applied to a comparator and compared with a reference voltage, the reference voltage is varied according to the operating conditions of the engine and the ignition point is determined from the resulting output signal of the comparator; in addition a device is described for performing the method. With this design the ignition point of the engine can be accurately determined, as a result of which improvements in the fuel consumption and the transmission efficiency can be achieved.
