According to the invention, composite bodies, in particular panels, are produced by the casting process or by an extrusion process, in which an assemblage of parallel strips arranged on edge or inclined at an angle a with respect to the outer layers is embedded in a polymer matrix. The polymer matrix is a transparent or translucent casting resin or a thermoplastic, whereas the strips can be metal foils or plastic film strips whose optical properties differ from those of the matrix plastic. By selecting the geometric relationships of strip width B, strip thickness S, clear distance A between the strips in the composite body, the angle of inclination a of the strips and panel thickness and material combination, the optical properties of the composite body are tailored to the particular application. The most important field of application is the field of covering illuminated scales of measuring instruments and measuring equipment for reading them without glare and the filtering out of sunlight at a high sun position.
