The invention relates to a cable shaft for holding a cable sleeve for communications cables, especially broadband cables, having a lower box, a bearing frame and a shaft cover. The lower box is constructed as an elongated U-shaped sleeve trough. Supporting strips can be connected to the bearing frame, for suspension of the cable sleeve. In consequence, overall, an extremely narrow construction is achieved. <IMAGE>
