PURPOSE:To prepare simply an oil tempered wire for a spring excellent in corrosion resistance, by forming a plasma spraying film comprising a non-ferrous metal such as Al, Ni, Cr, Zn or Sn to the surface of a matrix wire subjected to wire drawing processing while applying oil temper treatment to the resulting coated wire. CONSTITUTION:A plasma spraying film comprising a non-ferrous metal such as Al, Ni, Cr, Zn or Sn or an alloy based on said metal is formed to the surface of a matrix wire (a) subjected to wire drawing processing so as to have a predetermined dimension by a wire melting type, a powder type or a plasma type plasma spraing apparatus 4 and, thereafter, the coated wire is heated to about 950 deg.C in a pit furnace and subsequently subjected to oil tempering in an oil tank 2. The plasma sprayed metal is diffused and permeated throughout the matrix wire (a) by this oil tempering treatment to form a corrosion resistant film. In the next step, the matrix wire is pref. passed through a die 5 to lightly squeeze the surface thereof to more strongly bond the corrosion resistant film to the matrix wire while the treated wire is subjected to annealing by passing the same through a lead bath tank 3 to obtain an oil tempered wire excellent in corrosion resistance and capable of being used under a severe condition for a long period of time.
