In the carriages, in each case a counting value corresponding to a defined running time is stored and a control signal which initiates the running of the respective carriage at a predetermined reception station is derived from the coincidence of counter state and counting value. In this way, the observance of both individual running times and also of cumulative running times is monitored and when these times are exceeded an automatic deflection of carriages to selected reception stations is made possible. The invention is preferably used for conveying systems for the in-company transport of files or material for conveying of similar dimensions.
