The device has an electrical actuator (11) whose rotary movement is converted into a translation movement of an axially adjustable primary disk (4) by an adjusting spindle (13), which is twistable by the actuator and is connected with the actuator. The adjusting spindle includes a self-locking screw or taper thread (12) standing in effective connection with the axially adjustable primary disk. The actuator operates as an electric motor in a direction during adjustment of a variator (1), and operates as a generator in an opposite direction during the variator adjustment.
