PURPOSE:To utilize effectively an excess heat energy in the central part of a steel material for heating the edge parts thereof by enclosing the edge parts and their vicinities of a hot steel material by air-permeable solid bodies and discharging a gas blown on the central parts of the upper and lower surfaces of the material penetratingly through said solid bodies. CONSTITUTION:A hot steel material 1 extracted from a continuous casting machine is surrounded by a furnace shell 9; by arranging covering members 3 extended at a prscribed distance from the upper and lower surfaces of the material 1, and arranging oppositely air-permeable solid bodies 4L, 4R having U- shaped cross sections respectively, and connecting an air pipe 6 to a header 5. Next, air is blown from air blowing nozzles 7 on the central positions of the upper and lower surfaces of the material 1 to be transported, and the heated air is flowed toward the edge sides to heat the edge parts of material 1 by the radiation heat. Thereafter, the air after passing through the solid bodies 4L, 4R is discharged into a gas duct 10 while preheating the air in the pipe 6. In this way, the excess heat energy in the central part of the hot material 1 is effectively utilized for heating the edge parts thereby performing efficiently the uniform heating of the material 1. |
