PURPOSE:To simply and accurately perform punching work by automating the same, by setting the relation of the oblique turning angle of a copper refining converter and the rising and falling level of a mechanical puncher while matching the aforementioned rising and falling level on the basis of an oblique turning angle measured value. CONSTITUTION:The mechanical puncher 2 of a mechanical punching apparatus is displaced so as to always correspond to the position of a converter tuyere 102. The rising and falling level of the puncher 2 is always detected by the means 112 such as a magnetic scale attached to an operation shaft to generate a signal. On the other hand, the oblique turning angle alpha of a converter 100 is always detected by the means 114 attached to the rotary central shaft O of the converter 100 to emit a signal. This signal is converted to a rising and falling level (x) preset so that the puncher 2 must take with respect to the angle alpha by a function generator [x=f(alpha)] 116. Now, when the converter is obliquely turned as an angle alpha1 and punching work is desired, a level value is converted to x1.
