PURPOSE:To eliminate mechanical abrasion, to make processing easy, to raise processing efficiency of end face and to reduce cost, by heating the end face of optical fiber fixed to an optical fiber fixture by a gas torch flame while putting a heat shielding plate between them so that the end face of the optical fiber is processed into a spherical state. CONSTITUTION:The optical fiber 1 is fixed and the heat shielding plate 4 with a very small hole is put between the optical fiber fixture 2 capable of transferring the optical fiber in the longer direction and the gas torch flame inlet 3 opposing in the longer direction of the fixed optical fiber in such a way that the heat shielding plate rectangular to them. Then, the optical fiber 1 is inserted into the very small hole 6 of the heat shielding plate 4, projected to the gas torch flame inlet side 3 by a necessary length, flame from the gas torch flame inlet 3 is jetted at constant pressure for a fixed time, the end of the optical fiber is heated and melted in the longer direction and the end face of the optical fiber is processed into a spherical state. |
