PURPOSE:To industrially obtain Ga and In, by such a relatively simple process that a minute amount of Ga and In ions in a treated raw liquid is adsorbed with an ion exchange resin and the eluate from said resin by a mineral acid is extracted with an org. solvent and, further, subjected to electrolysis. CONSTITUTION:A liquid containing a minute amount of Ga or In generated by dissolving a solid substance with an acid or from metal refining or other chemical process is used as a raw liquid to be treated and passed through a chelating ion exchange resin under a pH value capable of selectively adsorb Ga and In. In the next step, said resin is treated with a mineral acid to eluate the substance adsorbed with the resin to obtain a Ga and In-containing eluate. By repeating this adsorption and elution, the other metal ion comes to a minute amount. Subsequently, the aforementioned eluate is extracted with an org. solvent and the extract is separated into an org. phase and an aqueous phase while the metal ion in the org. phase is back extracted with water. This aqueous solution is used as an alkaline electrolyte to obtain Ga and the aforementioned aqueous solution or the liquid after electrolysis is treated with an org. solvent and water similarly as mentioned above to form an aqueous solution to which a metal more base than In is, in turn, added to subject In to substitution precipitation.
|
