PURPOSE:To mix metal fibers of different materials and diameters in any proposed proportion uniformly and well dispersed, by placing metal sheets of desired material and thickness in a specific proportion into the form of a laminated coil, and by cutting the end face using cutters rotating relatively. CONSTITUTION:Normally cold rolled steel sheets of 0.025-0.5mm. in thickness and stainless steel sheets of the same thickness are wound round a shaft, as being laminated one over another, and the end is fixed by adhesives etc. to provide a coil 3, which is then rotated, and its end face is machined by cutters 4 with a depth of cutting as small as 0.03-0.5mm.. The metal fibers 1A, 2A obtained through this machining provide a continuous wool-like material with square or rhombic profile in a size according to the thicknesses of metal sheets 1, 2 used and the depth of cutting. The mix proportion of different materials will be, in the case of two layers, proportional to the thicknesses of the metal sheets 1, 2, and to the total thickness of the materials in the case of three layers or more, so that any desired proportion can be obtained by adjusting the sheet thicknesses and the number of sheets in lamination. |
