PURPOSE:To obtain a modified resin having improved flexiblity, thermal shock resistance and electrical characteristics, by reacting a mixture of a butadiene based polymer containing OH groups with ricinoleic acid (derivative) with a dibasic acid anhydride, and modifying an epoxy resin with the resultant compound. CONSTITUTION:(A) A mixture of preferably 10-90wt% butadiene based polymer containing OH groups with preferably 90-10wt% ricinoleic acid (derivative) is reacted with preferably 0.2-1.0mol, based on one equivalent OH groups in the above-mentioned mixture, dibasic acid anhydride, e.g. maleic anhydride or pyromellitic anhydride, to give a half ester substance having COOH groups, which is then reacted with (B) a polyfunctional epoxy resin in an amount of 1.8-30 equivalents thereof based on one equivalent of epoxy groups in the component (A) under heating (preferably at 80-150 deg.C for 1-3hr). USE:Usable for paints, impregnating, molding, casting or laminating.
