The device (1) has an evaluation unit calculating an estimated value of a deposit amount of material particles e.g. fine dust, in a collecting unit (6) from characteristic that is corrected by a correcting unit and pressure loss between an inlet side and an outlet side of the collecting unit. The loss is measured by a pressure loss measuring unit (9). A regeneration unit regenerates the collecting unit by combustion of the material particles that are deposited in the collecting unit when the estimated value calculated by the evaluation unit exceeds a pre-determined threshold value.
