The layered sensor (20) to establish a physical characteristic of a fluid/gas, especially a gas component concentration in a motor exhaust gas, has two layers (21,22) with at least one conductor (31) between them and a recess (32) in one layer (21). The recess has at least one contact element (33) with its outer surface (90) flat along a large sensor surface area. The contact is electrically connected to the conductor and at a gap (61) from the first layer of 0.05-2.0 mm and preferably 0.2 mm. The layers are of ceramic material with a thickness of 50-1000 mu m.
