摘要 <p>A short pulse radar drill guidance system for mapping coal or other mineral seam dimensions. The system comprises a casing, a source of electromagnetic pulses mounted within the casing and a transmitting means mounted within the casing and connected to the source of electromagnetic pulses to transmit the pulses into the earth. A receiving means is mounted within the casing and spaced relationship to the transmitting means to receive electromagnetic energy which returns to the receiving means following the reflection of the electromagnetic pulses from various geological discontinuities within the earth. Directive antenna means are provided for the transmitting and receiving means and mounted within the casing. A control circuit means is mounted within the casing for controlling both the transmission of the electromagnetic pulses from the transmitting means and the reception of the electromagnetic energy by the receiving means. The control circuit is connected to both the transmitting means and receiving means in spaced relationship to the former such that the transmitting means is positioned intermediate the control circuit means and the receiving means to prevent electromagnetic coupling. The drill guidance system according to the present invention provides a new and improved means for mapping the boundaries of a mineral seam through the use of radar technology, and permits circuitry which is sufficiently reduced in size to fit within a bore hole tool for insertion into standard sized bore holes, with the control and transmitting/receiving functions being performed at the down hole location of the bore hole tool.</p>
