Esters of o-(pyridyloxy-phenyl)-lactic acids[I were prepd. from the reaction of 4-(5-halogenopyridyl-2-oxy) phenol[II ! and esters of - halogenopropionic acids[III in inert organic solvent with the same quantities of base, at 0≦̸C boiling point and normal pressure. Hal is a hlogen atom, X is H or Cl. Y is O or S. Z is substituted or unsubstituted C1-2 alkylene by methyl, cyano, methylcarbonyl or ethoxycarbonyl. Q is OH, C1-2 alkoxy, NH2 or NHC2H5.
