An apparatus and a method for setting an emergency call of a mobile terminal are provided to allow a user logged in by using a sharing key for an emergency call to use a pre-registered emergency call. An input unit(130) receives various commands and information from a user. If an emergency call setting request is inputted through the input unit, a controller(180) searches an available access point. The controller performs a user authentication process using a sharing key for an emergency call to perform a login process through the searched access point. A near field communications module(114) transceives various signals for setting as an emergency call according to indication of the controller. If two or more access points are searched, the controller selects the access points in which received signal strength are highest.
