PURPOSE:To enable to favorably print without any trouble both in thermal printing and in thermal transfer printing, by making different the pressure exerted by a thermal head in thermal printing and that in thermal transfer printing. CONSTITUTION:A change-over switch 16 constituting a means for varying the pressure of the thermal head by varying a voltage impressed on a solenoid 8 is connected to the solenoid 8 at a position between the solenoid 8 and a power source VH. The side of a terminal A of the switch 16 is used for thermal printing, and is connected to the power source VH through a resistor R, while the side of a terminal B is used for thermal transfer printing, and is connected directly to the power source VH. A voltage of {(VH-VCE)/(RS+R)}XRS is impressed on the solenoid 8 when the switch 16 is changed over to the terminal A side, while a higher voltage of (VH-VCE) is impressed on the solenoid 8 when the switch 16 is changed over to the terminal B side, wherein VCE is the collector-emitter voltage of a transistor 15 and RS is the resistance of the solenoid 8. Accordingly, since the pressure exerted by the thermal head in thermal printing and that in thermal transfer printing can be made to be different from each other, it is possible to favorably print without any trouble in either of the printing modes. |
