PURPOSE:An insect pest repellent that contains p-chloro-m-xylenol as an active ingredient, thus preventing insect pests from coming flying and causing no malaise, even when it is applied to human bodies. CONSTITUTION:The objective insect pest repellent contains, as an active ingredient, at least one selected from p-chloro-m-xylenol, o-phenylphenol, benzyl benzoate and alpha-bromocynnamaldehyde. The repellent has no peculiar or unpleasant odor, causes no malaise, even when it is applied to human bodies directly or near them, thus being used by spraying, atomizing or coating in general homes, storage houses for cereals or the cookroom in restaurants or directly to the bodies of animals and plants. The repellent may be supported on a base material such as a synthetic resin sheet or nonwoven sheet and used in the form of sheets or a part of household stuff to prevent insect pests such as cockroaches, bedbugs, termites or the like from penetrating, come flying or approaching.
