1446621 Photographic development W R GRACE & CO 21 Aug 1973 [18 Dec 1972 16 April 1973] 39609/73 Heading G2X A latent image in a plate having areas of liquid photohardenable material and image areas of photohardened material is developed by blowing away liquid from the liquid areas with a sheet of gas. This development is effected in an apparatus comprising (a) a platen for supporting the plate, (b) a gas knife which is shaped and positioned to deliver a sheet of gas transversely of the platen and (c) a frame which carries the platen and is connected to the gas knife so as to permit relative motion between the platen and the gas knife in a least a forward direction longitudinally of the platen. In a specific apparatus, either the gas knife or the platen is movable with respect to the other, two roller-towel blotters are positioned adjacent the gas knife to absorb remaining liquid, the platen may be attached to vacuum and blowing means for respectively retaining and removing a plate, and the platen may be warmed or cooled or the gas warmed to produce a suitable viscosity in the liquid areas. The gas is preferably air. An exposure device (e.g. U.V. lamp) may be provided to harden the remaining image and any remaining liquid. |
