Stain comprises zircon contg. vanadium or tin sulphide as colourant. Reactive ZrO2, SiO2, source of V2O5 or tin oxide, source of S, reducing agent and mineraliser are fired; residual free S is removed from fired prod., pref. by an oxidising firing or by leaching with dil. HNO3 or conc. HNO3/H2SO4 after milling. Pref. ZrO2 is co-pptd. with source of V2O5 or tin oxide.
