Repairing anode carrier stub ends - by flame cutting burnt and welding-on new ends whilst carrier remains suspended on overhead conveyor

The procedure is intended for repairing the burned stubs of steel breech pieces arranged at the lower ends of anode rods which hold the (graphite) anode blocks as used in electrolytic aluminium production. The rods are suspended and moved along an overhead rail through a flame cutting station (shown), where any stub requiring replacement is cut and a welding station where replacement stub are secured. During both operations, each rod remains attached to the overhead rail conveyor crab and the operations are carried out semi-automatically.
