PURPOSE:To facilitate catalytic combustion in a range in which diffusion combustion by natural air is hard to make, by a method wherein a catalytic burner is formed into a vertical type, air flow-in holes are provided in a bottom, and a combustion air is forced to automatically flow in. CONSTITUTION:A ceramic foam, having continuous bubbles, forms a carrier, gamma-alumina is carried thereon, and diffusion mat 7 made of a ceramic fiber material is placed in a manner to be firmly adhered to a catalyst body 6 in which a platinum group catalyst such as platinum, paradium, is carried on a carrier having an enlarged surface area. A fuel feed pipe 9 having a plurality of fuel feed holes 8 in a pipe wall is installed to the interior of the diffusion mat 7. Further, air flow-in holes 11 are provided in a bottom plate 10 making contact with the under surface of the diffusion mat 7, and is forced into contact with the open air. This facilitates catalytic combustion within a range in which diffusion combustion by a natural air is hard to make, widens a combustion variable width, and prevents production of NOX. |
