In a method for destroying flying insects, especially tsetse flies, ultraviolet light is radiated; the insects which are attracted in this way are killed by a current shock. A device for carrying out this method has a generator for producing UV radiation, a high-voltage pulse apparatus, an energy store and an energy generator.
