A basic pulse pattern, which is independent of the saturation level, is stored in a storage circuit which is driven by a drive signal (Z). The drive signal (Z) is formed from a desired displacement value ( alpha ), which is dependent on the saturation level, in a displacement device (11.R) by addition and/or buffer-storing of a propagation-time signal (N) which produces [sic] a counter (13) which is driven by an oscillator (12). A read-only memory (14.1 to 14.4) determines for each saturation level a plurality of desired displacement values ( alpha 1 to alpha 4) associated with different angle regions of the propagation-time signal, by means of which values a multiplexer (18.R), which is driven by an angle-region discriminator (17.R), in each case switches the desired displacement value ( alpha ) associated with the current phase angle of the propagation-time signal to the displacement device (11.R). <IMAGE>
