<p>PURPOSE:To control adequately the thickness of a narrow metallic strip without adjustment of rolling down in the stage of rolling said strip by detecting the nonuniform thickness in the transverse direction of the strip and applying a longitudinal tensile force thereon. CONSTITUTION:A narrow metallic strip 14 in which the uniform thickness is distributed in the transverse direction is let off from a stock reel 34 and is passed between work rolls 16 and 18 for rolling, by which the strip is finish-rolled. A sensor 44 is disposed on the up stream side just before the rolls 16, 18 to detect the fluctuation of the thickness in the lateral transverse direction of the strip 14. A suitable number of various differently shaped rolls 36-42 disposed on the down stream side of the rolls 16, 18 are selectively moved upward and downward in accordance with the detected signal to press the risen rolls to the strip 14 thereby applying a longitudinal tension on the strip 14. The fluctuation of the thickness in the transverse direction is thus corrected by rolling without adjusting rotationally the rolling down screw.</p> |
