The invention relates to a device for sealing off bearings, in particular encapsulated maintenance-free bearings. The device has an exchangeable seal which prevents the penetration of foreign bodies between the sliding faces of the parts of the bearing which move relative to one another. On one side, the seal is provided with sealing lips and, on the rear side, is profiled. It is seated in a recess in the bearing, which recess is designed with complementary profiling to the profile of the rear side of the seal. On the side opposite the sealing lips, the seal has a groove, ribs thus being formed on both sides of this groove. A web formed in the recess of the bearing engages in the groove and the ribs of the seal are seated in grooves of the sliding bearing. The sealing device is simple and cheap to manufacture. The seal is equally suitable for radial and thrust bearings. The seal can be inserted and exchanged rapidly and in a simple manner by hand without a tool. For producing the profiled recess in sliding bearings, use is made of a special blanking plate which can be inserted exchangeably in a locating device which can be mounted in any suitable machine tool. <IMAGE>
