PURPOSE:To markedly improve the speed of electrical discharge machining and premit the preparation at low cost by constituting an electrode material for electrical discharge machining so as to contain Mg in 0.05-20wt% and Cu as rest and impurities which are contained inevitably. CONSTITUTION:An electrode material is prepared as follows: Cu (electrolytic copper) is melted in a graphite crucible set in a small-sized high-frequency furnace, and when a proper temp. for casting is reached in the state where the molten surface of copper is covered with charcoal powder, Mg is added, and immediately casting is carried-out. The reasons that the addition amount of each element in this electrode material are as follows: The content of Mg is set within 0.05-20wt%, because the speed in electrical discharge machining is not increased with Mg in less than 0.05wt%, and when the content exceeds 20wt%, the effect for improving said speed reaches into nearly saturation state, and casting performance is remarkably deteriorated. The material may contain the impurities which is inevitably contained in a degree in a Cu-ground-metal ordinarily used. Thus, the speed in electrical discharge machining is improved markedly, and the material can be prepared at low cost. |
