A description is given of a group of novel 2-cyano-2-(cyanomethoxyimino)acetates of the formula I <IMAGE> in which R represents hydrogen, unsubstituted C9-C18-alkyl, mono- or poly-halo-substituted C9-C18-alkyl, or represents a C1-C4-alkyl group which is substituted by nitro, C3-C6-cycloalkyl, phenoxy, phenylthio or a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic radical containing one or two nitrogen, oxygen and/or sulphur atoms, and additionally each phenyl moiety is unsubstituted or substituted one or more times by halogen, nitro, C1-C4-alkyl, halo(C1-C3-alkyl) or C1-C4-alkoxy, and of a process for their preparation. The compounds are suitable for the protection or preservation of stored materials of plant and/or animal origin; they are active against yeast, bacteria and, in particular, against moulds.
