The present invention relates to a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus with a reduced scanning time and an improved signal to noise ratio. The magnetic resonance imaging apparatus comprises: a gradient control unit to apply spatial encoding gradients to a plurality of slices, and to apply a first direction gradient to a plurality of slices; an RF receiver to receive magnetic resonance signals of a plurality of slices which are undersampled in a second direction different from the first direction; and an image processing unit to create magnetic resonance images of each slice included in the plurality of slices, based on the magnetic resonance signals of the plurality of slices.
