The self-supporting optical fibre cable has a full-length support element (TE), the cable core (KS) and the support element (TE) being surrounded by a common outer sheath. The cable core (KS) is arranged running back and forth in a non-rectilinear fashion with respect to the support element (TE) in order to achieve an excess length.
