PURPOSE:To prolong the repeated shape memory life of an alloy consisting of specified percentages of Cu, Zn and Al without deteriorating the shape memory characteristics by quenching the alloy under specified conditions so as to precipitate uniformly and finely a specified amount of alpha-phase in the matrix. CONSTITUTION:An alloy consisting of 10-45wt% Zn, 1-8wt% Al and the balance essentially Cu is heat treated by quenching at 500-800 deg.C for 5-60min to precipitate uniformly and finely 4-20vol% alpha-phase in the martensite matrix. Thus, the repeated shape memory life of the Cu-Zn-Al type shape memory alloy is improved. |
