PURPOSE:To reduce the operating load when a document is produced by displaying the format information on a display device with shift of a cursor to display the document contents and at the same time displaying the contents of the format information in an area different from a display area. CONSTITUTION:A memory part 12 contains an area where the document information is stored and an area where the format information is stored in response to each line forming a document. The document information is read out of a document information memory area and displayed on a CRT20. Then an optional position of the document displayed in the document information memory area on a display screen is designated by cursor shift keys 40-43. At the same time, the space character intervals are designated by a space key 49 and a next candidate key 45. In such a way, a cursor is shifted to display the document information. While the contents of the format information are displayed in a format display area set separately from the document information memory area. Thus the load of an operator can be reduced for production of documents.
