PURPOSE:To improve sliding abrasion property by coating the piston ring with a hard film of non-organic chemical compound. CONSTITUTION:Coating treatment of hard film of several m thickness is applied on the surface of the metallic piston ring by means of so-called physical or chamical depositing method, such as spattering method, ion plating method or the like. If the coating becomes thicker than 10mum, troubles such as cracking or separation will be readily caused in the film itself when the piston ring is mounted, therefore, the thickness of the film is preferable to be less than 10mum. CrN, TiN, TiC, VC, Al2O3 and BN are recommendable as the material of the hard film. |
