PURPOSE:To eliminate a multiplication to attain a high-speed operation and to detect easily a contour point by expressing the contour point by means of the coordinates of the contour point and the tracking direction code of the contour point and detecting a contour feature from the variation degree of the tracking direction code for each reference contour section existing along the contour. CONSTITUTION:An image pickup means 101 gives a raster scan to an object to be collated with the addition of image pickup to obtain the picture signal of continuous gradation. This picture signal is converted into a binary coded signal having the threshold value of a fixed level by a binary coding means 102 and stored temporarily in a picture memory 103. The binary coded signal is applied to a contour point tracking means 304 from the memory 103, and the means 304 supplies successively the coordinates of feature points and the tracking direction codes to a contour feature interpreting means 305. The means 305 operates a contour curvature to detect various contour features from the contour point information consisting of the fed coordinates of the feature points and the tracking direction codes. The result of this operation is interpreted to detect quickly and easily the contour features including the groove, corner, crack, etc. of the contour part. |
