PURPOSE:To record and reproduce stereophonic sound signals while maintaining the compatibility with a device which records sound signals upon a video signal and reproduces them, by recording and reproducing error signals components of stereophonic sound signals on time compression basis. CONSTITUTION:Stereophonic signals are supplied to an adder 305 to generate their right-left sum signal L+R and also inputted to a subtracter 306 to generate their difference signal L-R. Then, the mixed signal of the sum signal L+R and a video signal is obtained through a video signal processing circuit 308, superposing circuit 309, etc. This mixed signal is recorded in the 1st area on a recording medium by a head 322. Further, the difference signal L-R is recorded in the 2nd area on the recording medium by a head 323. Thus, the stereophonic sound signals are recorded and reproduced while maintaining compatibility with a device which records the sound signals upon the video signal and reproduces them. |
