<p>A process forthe preparation of pyrimidinetrione deriva- es of formula (I) is described
<Chemistry id="chema01" num="0001"><Image id="ia01" he="26" wi="63" file="IMGA0001.TIF" imgContent="chem" imgFormat="TIFF" inline="no" /></Chemistry>lerein R' and R<Sup>2</Sup>, which may be the same or different, rep- sent aliphatic, araliphatic or aryl groups, and R<Sup>3</Sup> represents a oup of the formula -CH<Sub>2</Sub>CH(OCONH<Sub>2</Sub>)-CH<Sub>2</Sub>OX wherein X is drogen or a C<Sub>l</Sub>-<Sub>5</Sub> alkyl group which comprises reacting proximately equimolar amounts of a monoalkali metal salt a compound offormula (I), wherein R<Sup>3 </Sup>is a hydrogen atom, th an alkylating agent R<Sup>3</Sup>Hal wherein R<Sup>3 </Sup>is as defined above d Hal represents a halogen atom, inthe presence of at least ! moles of an acid of formula (I) wherein R<Sup>3</Sup> is a hydrogen atom per mole ofalkali metal salt. The yield is increased by up to 50% by this method. The process is of particular application of febarbamate, 1-(3-nbutoxy-2-carbamoyloxypropyl)-5-ethyl-5-phenyl- (1H, 3H, 5H) pyrimidine-2, 4, 6-trione. Also described is a method of treating geriatrics using febarbamate which has particular advantages in reducing irritability and antisocial behaviour.</p> |
